We have been sharing the when, what, and where behind our annual Summer Dance Intensive.
Now, we want to share the WHY!
Take just a few moments to read the testimonials from 8-time returning student, Ashley Champa, and 2-time returning student, Drake Dombroski. All of us from Inlet can honestly say that once you are apart of Inlet’s Summer Dance Intensive (regardless of how many summers you participate) you become a part of our Inlet family and we hold each memory close to our hearts!
Ashley Champa:
This summer program means the world to me. I strongly believe that had I not started doing Inlet’s Summer Dance Intensive 8 years ago, I would not be the same person I am today nor would I have had the same life experiences outside of dance. Inlet has taught me what it means to be successful and all the work that goes into it. I return to Inlet’s Summer Dance Intensive each year because of the impact it has had on me. Inlet has given me a passion. Inlet has shown me what it is like to have such a strong desire to do something that you never give up no matter how hard it gets because you love it so much and cannot see yourself doing anything else. It has taught me how to continuously strive for better and never settle for where you are at. I cannot pick a single experience that I value most. To be completely honest, I have valued each and every moment I have had with Inlet. Each year Bill and his dancers share so many words of wisdom that not only contribute to dance but to the endless world outside of dance. I value the experience I have had working as a team member, cheering each other on, and most importantly having fun. I value the love and care that goes into Nontraditional Partnering. The trust that someone always has your back both physically and metaphorically. When each summer concludes, I have an even clearer sense of what it is that I want to do with my life. I know exactly what I have to do to make my dreams a reality. I gain the work ethic and the confidence I need to achieve whatever lies ahead of me. I take away a couple tears each year when the summer concludes along with memories and friendships to last a lifetime.”
Drake Dombroski:
“I have been to the intensive that Inlet holds two times in a row. This program has allowed me to make friendships and connections both of which are important in the dance world. It also has allowed me to improve substantially. I continue to come to Inlet because I love the group of people that are involved with it. I really enjoy being around Bill Wade, the company, and the Summer Dance Intensive students. Overall, it is a win. I am able to learn a lot and be around a great group of people. For me, that is what matters most. Yes, I want to learn a lot, but I also want to be around people that I like and respect. Inlet covers all portions of that. I believe the most important thing that comes from Inlet is being able to get work done and still be able to have a good time. I don’t want to be involved in a real strict process; I find it to be counter productive. I love that we have fun in our rehearsals but still produce amazing art. I always learn so much coming here–like how to hold my weight and direct all my movement from the pelvis. Inlet’s Summer Dance Intensive is something that I really enjoy and respect. We have a good time and learn a lot!”
