Inlet has exciting opportunities coming up that you HAVE to know about. Below is a list of where you can see Inlet for the next few months.
March 1 – Lose Your Marbles Fringe Festival in Akron, OH. The best-known dance companies in Northeast Ohio are coming together in the historic Akron Civic Theatre for “Lose Your Marbles” on Friday, March 1, at 8 p.m. Audience members can experience performances by GroundWorks Dance Theatre, Inlet Dance Theatre, Neos Dance Theatre, and Verb Ballets during the one-evening festival at the Akron Civic Theatre, 182 S. Main St. in downtown Akron. Presented by Neos Dance Theatre with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as part of its Knight Arts Challenge, “Lose Your Marbles” takes its name from Akron’s legacy as the birthplace of toy marble-making automation. Tickets for “Lose Your Marbles” are $23 for reserved seating, $18 general admission, and $5 for students with ID. They are available online at www.loseyourmarbles.org and at the door that evening. Inlet will be performing, “Sojourn,” a piece that addresses the fact that we are all refugees of sorts, each clamoring to reach their version of Heaven. By sharing our stories and receiving the stories of others we create empathy and can build community despite our individual differences. We are all, in our own ways, trying to find a sense of security, belonging, love…home…
March 9 – Near West Theatre‘s Annual Benefit, “Bohemian Bash.” Inlet is proud to have been rehearsing in Near West Theatre’s rehearsal studios for the past several months. Through the building of this continued relationship, Inlet will be performing as special entertainment for the annual benefit. Inlet’s Event Services is thrilled to be a part of such an exciting night of art! And a huge thank you to everyone at Near West theatre for allowing Inlet to rehearse in such a beautiful and giving space. Tickets are still available for the “Bohemian Bash.” Click here!

May 23–25 – SAVE THE DATE: Inlet performs at Cleveland Public Theatre for DanceWorks 2019. This year Inlet will be performing a concert of pieces based on other forms of art. Three pieces from Inlet’s repertory, “B’roke (2004),” “Semiotic Variations,” and “Offaxis (2008)” will be shown alongside the WORLD premiere of a new male trio. The new work in process of creation is entitled, “Becoming”, and is inspired by the sculptures and artistic philosophies of American sculptor, Frederick Hart. This piece is a way to investigate the idea that every human being is God’s artwork and the thought that perhaps creation (Genesis) is still ongoing. Every person is a works in progress, in the act of becoming. People have so much difficulty with acceptance and true empathy with other people who are different–the more the perceived different, the harder it seems to be. There’s so much fear about “others” and yet we know that all feelings of resistance are a sign that more information is needed. By encompassing the men, completely covering their bodies with fabric, this piece is erasing numerous aspects of their identity (gender, race, socioeconomic status, et al). It is only when they press body parts into the stretch fabric (a metaphor for the tension we feel in growth), that we get a sense of the person inside. This is also an exploration of the return to interest in the human form in sculpture. Intentionally creating moving sculptures that vacillate between abstract and human form as a way to express the tension everyone experiences in life, how we reveal/hide aspects of ourselves in our various relationships, and as a way to provide a new vantage point to viewing the body (people) so we may see and be moved by the power of beauty in each person we meet. Tickets for DanceWorks ’19 will be available soon with special discounts and offers!
