Nicole’s Story:
I first heard about Inlet Dance Theatre in the winter of 2010 about 6 months after I graduated from Kent State University with a BFA in Dance (Performance and Choreography). I saw Dominic Moore-Dunson (whom I previously performed with in college) perform in the annual faculty concert. I discovered that he was a part of Inlet Dance Theatre and decided to look into it. Having taken a few months off from performing, something just did not feel right. After seeing him perform in the faculty concert, I knew I had to pursue dancing as a career. I did my research, and I applied for the Trainee and Apprentice Program starting Fall 2011.
I knew very little about the company before becoming a trainee. I did take several classes beforehand during Inlet’s Summer Dance Intensive and loved every minute of moving again. I remember those days I was so nervous because I wanted to make a good impression. I remember my husband (boyfriend at the time) Nick saying to me “you will do great, what is not to love about you.”
One “aha” moment I remember with Inlet was the first week of company rehearsal. I watched the company rehearse a piece called “Water” to prepare for their upcoming Dance Showcase. I was so captivated by the beauty of the piece and that was when I knew I wanted to become a company member of Inlet Dance Theatre.
I worked extremely hard and became a company member in 2013. Now, these past 6 years performing with Inlet have been a dream come true. I am blessed and honored to be doing what I love every day as a career. I am so thankful for the privilege to have these dance experiences and opportunities. Being able to tour and dance with this great group of people has been amazing and they have become my second family. I am excited to see what the future holds for us.
