“The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles but to irrigate deserts”
-CS Lewis
Well, it’s a new year now and, as usual, my thoughts turn to reflection. When I wrote last year that I could never have imagined what 2016 would look like, I definitely could not have imagined the 2017 that Inlet Dance Theatre has had. I can only sum it up in one word – WOW! Our successes have always been, and will continue to be, rooted in the mission that guides our daily work – using dance to further people. It’s as simple as that! Each member of Inlet Dance Theatre believes in their core that dance has value; dance is important; and dance can be used as a bridge to transform lives. I’m not even sure where to start, but here are a few highlights:
Using Dance…
- This year, our mission took us on the road! During the entire month of February, we premiered a commissioned evening-length work about human trafficking, and toured it to audiences in Michigan and Iowa to show people what Cleveland-based dance looks like!;
- Inlet Dance Theatre was the first company from Cleveland in more than 45 years invited to participate in the prestigious Inside/Out Series at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in Becket, MA.
- Cleveland is, and always will be, home and this year we continued to present free concerts throughout the city, including at Playhouse Square, Cain Park, MetroHealth Hospital and Tremont;
To Further People.
- Inlet is now in our second year working with senior adults at Judson Manor. Our work with residents last year resulted in the creation of Building CLE, which transformed the stories the residents told into dance on the stage.
- We continued our work in Akron through workshops of The Black Card Project, which will serve as a teaching tool in 2018 as we work with students in the region;
On behalf of those we move, THANK YOU for your support of Inlet Dance! Thank you for attending our concerts and showing that you believe in the value of dance!
Your support makes our work possible! We have exciting things in store for 2018, which I’ll share with you very soon, but right now I am asking you to support Inlet Dance Theatre today by making a charitable gift today. If you are unable to make a gift at this time, I hope you may consider us at a time when it is more appropriate for you and your family.
Every contribution is gratefully appreciated and deeply valued. I know you have choices when you make a charitable gift and when you support Inlet, you are making an investment in dancers, people, and Cleveland. Thank you for your continued support of Inlet Dance and I look forward to seeing you at a performance! And feel free to bring a friend so they can see what you’ve been talking about to them!
Very truly yours,
Bill Wade
Founder and Executive/Artistic Director
P.S. Remember, you can honor a friend or family member through your gift! Also, if you work for a company with a Matching Gift Program, please submit a matching gift form with your donation to double its benefit to Inlet Dance Theatre.
